The WRC returns to action this week with the Rally of Sweden. After the opening round in Monte-Carlo, where the win went to Sébastien Ogier, comes the only event held on snow this season.

The Nordic rally will be held between 9 and 12 February. The organisation has prepared a route consisting of 18 stages totalling 331.74 kilometres against the clock. Some of these stages will be run in Norway, as last year, but there have been changes to the Swedish part of the event, which has been moved further north to avoid the lack-of-snow problems that nearly led to the rally being cancelled last year.

The rally, with 58% new route, will begin on Thursday with the shakedown and the famous Karlstad Hippodrome stage. Friday is the turn of the Norwegian stages, while Saturday and Sunday are run entirely on Swedish soil, passing through well-known stages such as the forests of Hagfors and Vargåsen with the Colin’s Crest, which promise spectacle.

This is the detailed route of the event:

Dani Sordo in the list of 15 WRC entries

On the entry list for this edition there are just under 50 crews, of which 15 are in the WRC category. Four of them are 2016-season WRC models that will be driven by Stéphane Lefebvre, Lorenzo Bertelli, Henning Solberg and Valeriy Gorban.

Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala have been the protagonists of this event over the last 5 years, sharing the victories: three for the Frenchman and two for the Finn, who had already won once before. Ogier, winner in Monte-Carlo, will lead the M-Sport squad, which will also include Ott Tänak and Elfyn Evans. Mads Østberg also returns with a fourth Ford Fiesta RS WRC 2017 homologated by M-Sport.

With Hyundai will be Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo and Hayden Paddon. Jari-Matti Latvala will drive one of the Toyota Yaris WRC, while the other will go to Juho Hänninen. Citroën will have Kris Meeke and Craig Breen for their works team.
