The Wimbledon tournament, the third grand slam of the season, has been underway for a few days, so now is the time to review the amounts of prize money the participating players will share§h12#, just as we did with the Roland Garros and the Australian Open.

The organizers of the London tournament are also following the trend of increasing prizes compared with previous years. This year the winners of the men’s and women’s singles categories will pocket 2.2 million pounds, which at the current exchange rate is about 2.5 million euros. The finalists will leave with the bitter taste of defeat, but with a cheque for 1.1 million pounds, that is, 1.25 million euros.

The prizes at Wimbledon are very generous from the first round onward. The players who fell in the first match took home a cheque for 35,000 pounds, about 40,000 euros, which, as on other occasions, has raised suspicions. The reason is the numerous withdrawals in the first round of major tournaments, eight in this Wimbledon edition in particular, with some players who did not last even 15 minutes on court due to injury, and who have come under scrutiny, with accusations that some of them were not fit to play but showed up to collect this cheque.

Players who reach the second round receive 57,000 pounds, 90,000 pounds those who reach the third round, 147,000 pounds those who fall in the fourth round, 275,000 pounds those who fall in the quarter-finals, and 550,000 pounds those who manage to reach the semi-finals.
